Outings and activities with ALFMED
Learn French and discover the French culture – those are the main objectives of ALFMED!
That’s why ALFMED offers visits and cultural activities in addition to the language courses. These visits are organised by ALFMED itself or directly by the local tourist information.
To extend your knowledge about the region, ALFMED offers:
A 2-hour visit through Perpignan at the beginning of every new course. You learn about the most important places of the city, their history and architecture, and you might also get some insider tips on the Casa Xanxo, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste cathedral and the Castillet. You also get to know the city itself, its excellent restaurants, nice bars and useful places like the post office, the bus station and current shops. The visit can turn quickly into a discussion where the students can ask questions about certain shops or background information.
Depending on the course, different visits are possible:
The visit of the artistic town of “Collioure” including a tour of the castle, and the exploration of the preserved bay “Paulilles”. The students spent a whole afternoon there with a member of the ALFMED team. The programme includes: Discovery of the town or the village by strolling down the streets, a picnic at the beach and the visit of a historical place or a symbol of the town.
During the summer, the “Tour des Saveurs”, which is organised by the tourism office, is always well appreciated by the ALFMED students. It is a bicycle tour through the city with a guide of the tourism office who leads the group through the streets and stops at different places to tell more about the history. The first stopover is in the Saint-Jacques gardens. There is a tasting of different fruits and vegetables, juices and fresh water. It is an enriching excursion for our students, accompanied by one of our teachers.
ALFMED also proposes the participation in annual events in Perpignan and its surroundings to the students:
The students can visit the international festival of photojournalism “VISA POUR L’IMAGE” in September. They can make a guided visit with a professional photojournalist. There are different topics and locations, the students can visit the festival during the courses with a member of the ALFMED team or by themselves in their free time.
The welcoming day at the “Palais des Rois de Majorque” is organised by the Conseil Général of the Pyrénées Orientales and its target is to welcome the new arrivals on the Catalan ground and to present to them the different institutions, which could be helpful for the integration in Perpignan’s social life.
The “Fête des Vendanges” (vintage celebration) in Banyuls usually takes place during the second weekend in October. The small village Banyuls celebrates the vintage, which happened during the summer. It’s a tradition of ALFMED to take the students there on the Sunday of this long weekend, to have a picnic and a big wine tasting.
All these excursions are organised within a pedagogic and cultural scope and in complementary to the French courses.
That’s why the ALFMED team ensures a complete immersion into the French language and the culture.
