Skills#EU (2016-2017)

The Skills#EU project will combine a virtual online infrastructure with offline courses to assist and prepare youngsters in their ERASMUS+ experience. Currently, there are a lot of elements missing in training programs. This project will solve this problem by handling a blended learning approach.

Our trainees will be provided with the necessary skills to excel on the European labor market. They will be able to familiarize with cultural and societal habits of the hosting country, which they will benefit from during their mobility.

Skills#EU will cover skills that are usually not or very weakly covered in formal vocational training programs, like:
– capabilities to cope with different cultures
– societal and political dynamics
– working environments
– different languages

By including these new perspectives, our trainees will be more active, responsible, prepared and open-minded as they would be with a traditional program. It will awake their enthusiasm for their hosting country and add a European perspective. These qualities will not only benefit them during their mobility, it will also benefit them in their future career and their personal life.

The Skills#EU is structured by three learning modules structured into several units, to support the trainer in their training of participants to mobility programs:

Module 1: Challenges and Opportunities as European citizen
Unit 1: The EU integration process – steps and achievements
Unit 2: Your rights and duties as a European citizen
Unit 3: Mobility as an EU citizen -learning from your stay abroad

Module 2: Decision-making in democracies and in the EU
Unit 1: Introduction to the ERASMUS+ program
Unit 2: Simulating EU-decision-making: negotiating the future budget of ERASMUS+

Module 3: Intercultural communication >> ALFMED module that we test with our ERASMUS + students
Unit 1: Intercultural communication (theory of Hofstede) – Profile Cards Game
Unit 2: A Cultural shock – Cultural adaptation (activities to encounter students with cultural adaptations)

It is foreseen to provide both online and offline training phases for the periods before, during and after the mobility. At the end there will be the possibility for the trainees to self-assess one’s own improvement regarding the defined European skills. Each module will also contain a training session, where the trainees discuss and decide on ways for further civic engagement after their stay abroad.

During the Mobility
